  • Are you accepting new members at the moment?
Absolutely. We are always excited to welcome talented young swimmers to the Club. However, we do sometimes reach capacity and some squads will operate a waiting list. Please read through the rest of the information in this section before completing the contact form in the "How can I arrange a trial?" section.
  • Why Midlothian?
As the largest, most successful, competitive swimming club in Midlothian, we've been helping talented young swimmers reach their potential for more than 30 years. Midlothian SC is a good size - not too big and not too small. This means that new swimmers become "one of the gang" very quickly and their talents are not overlooked in a big squad. For a mid-sized Club, we are known for punching above our weight when it comes to results. Our swimmers are successful at all levels from our younger novice swimmers to our District and National champions.
  • How old do swimmers have to be to join?
Swimmers have to be at least 7 years old to join us. Usually, swimmers will come to us after they have completed their "Learn to Swim" programme but we are also happy to consider talented youngsters who are new to competitive swimming up to the age of 10.
  • I'm looking for a new Club, can I join?"
Yes. We realise that sometimes circumstances change and swimmers may need to find a new Club. We'll be happy to consider those with experience of Club swimming at any time.
  • Are swimmers grouped into squads?
Yes. We have 5 squads: Pre-Development Development Bronze Silver Gold The number and intensity of training sessions increases as swimmers progress through the squads. Young swimmers who are new to competitive swimming will normally be brought into our Pre-Development squad. You can find out when and where each squad trains by clicking here.
  • Will I have to try out for the Club?
Yes. We'll invite you along to one of our training sessions where our coaches will watch you swim and assess your strokes etc. If you're new to competitive swimming, you'll need to be able to show that you can swim two lengths each of front crawl, breaststroke and backstroke competently. You will also be asked to swim some butterfly. As well as looking at your technique, our coaches will be checking to see whether you can listen, follow direction and take on board their feedback. These are very important qualities if swimmers are to make good progress in training. We will usually let you know on the day, whether we can offer you a place. If you're already a competitive swimmer, our coaches will usually ask you to join in with a training session so that they can assess which squad might be the best fit for you. Again, we'll let you know very quickly whether we can offer you a place.
