Issued - Tuesday 17th March, 2020 (7.30pm)
In response to the UK and Scottish Government announcements regarding non-essential social contact, Midlothian Council has announced that all Leisure Centres will be closed from close of business tonight until further notice.
As a result all training (pool & land) is suspended with immediate effect.
We will be in touch shortly with some land training sets that swimmers can do at home in order to stay in shape. These have been prepared by Alan Lynn National Coach in conjunction with Neil Shanks, Physical Prep Lead for swimming at the sportscotland Institute of Sport.
We are also investigating the possibility of running some Cross Fit sessions with our Friday land training instructor, Eilidh, which our swimmers can take part in from home via Livestream. More on this later.
We anticipate this closure extending beyond the end of the month. We will be in touch once we are certain of this regarding the suspension of monthly training fees.
As far as we are aware, there is no change to the deadline for the SASA renewal which must be completed by the end of the month. If you haven’t already paid this, please do it now.
EGM - Friday 20th
This Friday’s EGM to vote on the proposal to move to monthly payment of the Club portion of the annual membership fee obviously cannot go ahead. Given the extraordinary circumstances, and provided no one objects, I will issue a survey on Team App on Friday morning to allow members to vote. This will close on Friday evening with the result being notified to members shortly after. If anyone is unhappy with this method of voting, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
As always, this is a fast moving situation and we will do our best to keep you updated as quickly as possible. In the meantime, please keep an eye on Team App for updates and above all, follow the recommended government guidelines regarding non-essential social contact and self-isolation.
Stay safe everyone
President, Midlothian Swimming Club
