COVID-19 Update

Updated: Mar 16

Sunday 15th March 2020

Above everything else, our priority is the health and wellbeing of our athletes, coaches, volunteers, their respective families and the wider community. The current outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) will pose a risk to us all as it develops. As you would expect, we have been following Scottish Government updates closely as well as taking advice from Scottish Swimming, the East District Committee and Midlothian Council regarding the implications for the Club.

The Executive group met this morning and this update outlines the latest position regarding training, competitions and the safety of our members. The situation is changing rapidly and further updates will be issued as advice changes at a national and local level.

Training

In keeping with the latest advice from Scottish Swimming, we will continue to run training sessions for those who wish to attend. This may change at short notice if coaches are unwell or, as we anticipate may happen, pools are closed. If there are any changes to the regular schedule, we will notify members via Team App.

Please bear in mind that there is no pressure from Midlothian Swimming Club for athletes, coaches or volunteers to attend any Club activity if they feel that it will risk their health. We would appreciate it if you would kindly let your squad coach know or email midlothianscpresident@gmail.com if you do not intend to train.

The Executive group will be monitoring this situation closely. In the event that pools are closed for a prolonged period, a decision will be taken regarding the suspension of monthly training fees.

Competitions

The Club currently has swimmers entered in upcoming meets. The table below gives the very latest information that we have received about these from the host clubs/organisations.

Portobello Mad March Meet

Warrender Junior Graded

28th & 29th Mar

Cancelled

Scottish National Age Groups

Where meets are cancelled, our treasurer will be in touch with anyone who has already paid their fees to arrange a refund. Please bear with us, as this may take a little time.

Our Competition Secretary will be monitoring the situation with future meets and we will update the meet calendar on the Club website with the latest information.

Safety

It is critical for everyone’s safety that athletes, coaches & volunteers follow government guidelines on the precautionary measures to take to avoid catching/limit the spread of the virus as well as the guidelines for self-isolating if you do develop symptoms.

Please do not attend training if there is even the slightest chance that you or a family member have any of the symptoms of COVID-19.

If you suspect you have symptoms or become unwell, please email midlothianscpresident@gmail.com immediately so that we can follow the agreed protocols to ensure everyone’s safety.

There are useful links at the end of this update should you need to remind yourself of the latest government advice.

As you will appreciate, this is a fast-moving situation and we are doing our best to digest all the information, make appropriate decisions and update our members as quickly as we can. We thank you for your patience and support at this time.

In the meantime, if anyone has any particular concerns or vulnerabilities that we need to be aware of, please do not hesitate to contact midlothianscpresident@gmail.com
